Rank, Tenure and Salary Committee Report

The Committee is working on two issues.

1. We have surveyed a number of colleges and universities regarding their tenure processes to try to gain some understanding of the use of a global committee of faculty in the tenure process. Our plan is to provide the Forum with a summary of our findings in September and to ask for a discussion of these findings on the floor of the Forum in October. This discussion will be followed by a poll of the faculty concerning the issue of instituting a University Tenure Committee.

2. We are formulating proposals that call on the University to renew its commitment to a set of goals for faculty salaries. We envision a process of negotiating with the administration to determining appropriate goals and will report to the forum when we have finished the process.
