Rank, Tenure and Salary Committee Report
11-21-02
The Committee has completed its
work on the proposal to change the wording in the tenure guidelines of the
Faculty handbook to allow the Director of the Library to serve on Tenure
Committees for library faculty.
We held open hearings on the
following and are reshaping these documents to present to the Executive
Committee in the near future.
- Proposals for a Change in Status for:
- Birth of a child
- Adoption of a child
- Family medical reasons
- Proposal for extending the probationary period for
tenure
Items remaining to be considered
by the committee:
- Should there be a University Tenure Committee? We are beginning talks concerning what
we should attempt in this area.
- We have been asked to consider recommending a change
in an order of activity used during the self-evaluation of faculty
process. It has been suggested that in the process of submitting one’s
self-evaluation, the chair of the department should write comments before
the faculty member submits comments and then the faculty member could
react to the comments of the chair.
Respectfully submitted,
Dwight M. Olson, Committee Chair
