Committee on Academic Policies Report

March 26, 2003, Faculty Forum Meeting

The Committee on Academic Policies has met three times ( February 19, 24, March 14) since the last forum meeting. We held open hearings on the Italian Concentration and two new majors in Business Information Systems ( BIS) and Computer Information Systems ( CIS) . We will present these two proposals for a vote at the March forum meeting. The Interdisciplinary Studies proposal was returned to representatives for clarification on some issues. We are currently working on a set of guidelines for submitting concentrations. These guidelines would identify what should be in a proposal for a concentration and hopefully avoid several questions people have. We also received information about the status of two new graduate programs for middle school math and science teachers currently being developed under a NSF grant. Full proposals on these programs will be presented next year.
